Deutsch: Die Stadtgemeinde Zürich verwendet den schräggeteilten Schild seit ihrer endgültigen Trennung vom Staate Zürich imJahre 1803. Oft ist der Schild von einer Mauerkrone überhöht oder mit einem oder zwei Löwen als Schildhalter dargestellt.

Deutsch: Die ältesten Zürcher Stadtsiegel zeigen die Stadtheiligen Felix und Regula. 1225 taucht erstmals und seit 1347 regelmäßig auch der Diener des Geschwisterpaares auf, Exuperantius2. Ein weiterer Siegeltypus des Spätmittelalters zeigte den von Silber und Blau schräggeteilten Schild, der wahrscheinlich vom Fahnenbild übernommen wurde. Zuerst ist der Zürichschild auf dem Siegel des kaiserlichen Hofgerichts von 1384 nachweisbar. Farbig findet er sich erstmals auf dem Panner von 1437. Das Wappen des Standes Zürich zierte fortan viele amtliche Dokumente, Standesscheiben, aber auch Kirchen und Landvogteischlösser auf der Zürcher Landschaft. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde der Zürichschild auch als Siegelbild einzelner Kommissionen benützt. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert führen ihn kantonale Amtsstellen, Bezirksbehörden, Gerichte und Notariate.
