| Description |
English: Boophone disticha ( family: Amaryllidaceae ) : a single dehisced, tricorn capsule revealing its three seeds - ready to be shed by the tumbleweed infructescence ( of which it forms a part ) when it is detached from the bulb and rolled across the veldt - whence ‘windball’ , one of the English common names for B. disticha. A version of an excellent original image created by user Paul Venter, cropped and brightened ( by means of various filters ) by user Flobbadob, the better to show the single seed capsule in detail. Note how, in dehiscing, the three-horned capsule has shed the dark brown, spidery remains of the fertilised flower which it bore while ripening and now gapes wide open.
