Summary
| Description |
The roadway over the SanDiego mountains was US-80. This is a section of the old roadway--now abandoned--visible for the most part, only from high in the mountainous terrain. The In-Ko-Pa grade of the roadway descends almost 4000 vertical feet in 11 miles thru two separate canyons on the east side of the mountains. At one point the east and west-bound lanes are separated by 1.5 miles. The eastbound lane follows the route of the original US-80, while the westbound lane takes the newer route. Interstate 8 replaced US-80 in 1964. |
