Summary

Description
English: Map of the kingdom of Alwa around the 10th century that considers the accounts of the Muslim geographers Ibn Hawqal and el-Aswani, supplemented by archaeological evidence. Primarily based on Derek Welsby.[1] According to Yousif el-Amin and David Edwards Makurian pottery dominated at least as far upstream as the 5th cataract region, so the border between Makuria and Alwa might have been somewhere in that area.[2] For the Nuba Mountains see Jay Spaulding.[3]
