Object history Die Symbole des Wappens stellen zur Vergangenheit von Saalbach einen Bezug her. Der silberne Wellenbalken versinnbildlicht den Fluss Saalach und die silbernen Kugeln verweisen auf den Hl. Nikolaus, der urkundlich 1410 neben dem Hl. Bartholomäus nachweisbar ist. Der Schneekristall und die gekreuzten Schi charakterisieren Saalbach als den Ausgangspunkt des Winterfremdenverkehrs im Lande Salzburg. 1898 brachte der Knecht Josef Wallner die Kunde des Schilaufens in seinen Heimatort, wo diese neue Sportart alsbald mit großem Eifer betrieben wurde.
