English:
  Mildew growing on a plastic shower curtain.


  100× oil-immersion objective, 15× eyepiece; the numbered ticks on the scale are eleven (11) microns apart.  (Yes, eleven microns, not ten.  Someone has been editing the descriptions on some of my files to “correct” odd measurements such as this.  Please do not do that.  The scale is built into my 15× eyepiece, and how it actually scales depends on the objective with which I use it.  With this 100× objective, the numbered ticks really do represent a distance of eleven (11) microns.  As much as you and I might wish it to be a nicer number, such as ten, it isn't; and if you edit this description to say that it is, then you are wrong for doing so.)

  In the full-sized version of this image, each pixel represents a square that is approximately 0.038 of a micron, or 38 nanometers.
