این قلعه بزرگ‌ترین قلعه دوران اسلامی در این منطقه و عظمت آن جنبه افسانه‌ای و نسبت دادن آن به نام آورترین شخصیت سیستان یعنی رستم شاهنامه است. مجموعه‌ای حدود ۱۵تپه مربوط به پیش از تاریخ نیز در این منطقه وجود دارد. باستان شناسان تعدادی سکه نقره مربوط به پوراندخت پادشاه ساسانی در این منطقه کشف کرده اند. |
