The 8th federal electoral district of Mexico City (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 08 de la Ciudad de México; previously "of the Federal District") is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of the 22 currently operational districts in Mexico City.[1]

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fourth region.[2][3]

The current member for the district, elected in the 2024 general election, is Ana María Lomelí of the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM).[4][5]

District territory

Under the National Electoral Institute's 2022 districting plan, which is to be used for the 2024, 2027 and 2030 federal elections,[6] the 8th district comprises 258 electoral precincts (secciones electorales) and covers most of the borough (alcaldía) of Coyoacán.[a][7]

The district reported a population of 400,753 in the 2020 Census.[1]

2005–2017

Under the 2005 districting scheme, the district covered the borough (delegación) of Cuauhtémoc to the north and west of Paseo de la Reforma and the Calzada de Guadalupe, and the eastern section of the borough of Azcapotzalco.[11]

1996–2005

Between 1996 and 2005, the district covered the northern portion of Cuauhtémoc only.[12]
