Pierre Leroux, known professionally as Pierre III, is a French musician, composer, and producer. He is recognized for his work as a session musician, as one half of the electro-pop duo Housse de Racket, and for his solo projects blending French touch, house, and indie pop.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Pierre Leroux studied classical guitar at a conservatory in France. His classical training laid the foundation for his genre-blending experimentation.[1]
Career
[edit]Session Musician
[edit]Leroux began as a session and touring musician, performing with artists such as Phoenix, Brigitte Fontaine, Jean-Claude Vannier, and Benjamin Diamond (Stardust).[2]
Housse de Racket
[edit]In 2005, Leroux co-founded the electro-pop duo Housse de Racket with Victor Le Masne. Their debut album, Forty Love (2008), garnered attention, and the follow-up, Alésia (2011), produced by Philippe Zdar (Cassius) and released on Kitsuné, brought international acclaim.
The band toured extensively, performing at festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, and Rock en Seine. They were endorsed by Phoenix, with whom they also shared stages.
The Tourist (2015) marked their third album, expanding their international fanbase and showcasing a refined, analog-influenced sound.
Solo Career as Pierre III
[edit]After Housse de Racket went on hiatus, Leroux launched his solo project under the moniker Pierre III. In 2020, he released the instrumental mixtapes Cluster and Cluster II, composed during the COVID-19 lockdowns. The mixtapes were praised for their cinematic tone.[1]
In 2021, he released the EP Menthol, shifting toward structured, melodic pop. In 2023, his first full-length solo album, Discotheque, was released. Influenced by Chicago house and indie dance, the album received positive reviews from French music press for its modern yet nostalgic sound.[3][4]
Soundtrack and Film Work
[edit]In 2021, Leroux composed the original soundtrack for the OCS series Jeune & Golri by Agnès Hurstel. Released on Ed Banger Records, the score was praised by label founder Pedro Winter. Leroux received the award for Best Original Score at the Séries Mania Festival, becoming the first recipient in the festival’s history to win for music.[2]
In 2022, he composed music for the Canal+ series Désordres by Florence Foresti, and the short film La Reconnaissance des caractères by Fabien Commoy. In 2023, he returned to score the second season of Jeune & Golri, expanding his stylistic range.
In 2024, music supervisor Thibault Deboaisne (Anatomy of a Fall, The Night of the 12) selected Leroux to compose the score for Martin Jauvat’s feature film Baise-en-ville, selected for the 2025 edition of La Semaine De La Critique at the Cannes Film Festival.[5]
