Mahabir Singh Guddu (born 10 October 1961) is an Indian folk artist, singer, and actor from Haryana. He is known for his contributions to Haryanvi folk music and dance, particularly through performances of traditional genres such as Shiv Gaayan.[1] In 2024, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, for his contributions to the arts.[2][3]

Career

Guddu began performing at the age of 11. His early career included participation in cultural festivals, notably winning first prize in the folk performance Paniharin at the All India Inter University Youth Festival in Jaipur in 1980.[4] He has worked with All India Radio Rohtak and the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC).[1]

His work includes the performance and preservation of traditional Haryanvi dance forms such as Ghoda Naach (also known as Kacchi Ghodi).[5]

Guddu has performed at various cultural events, including the Surajkund Mela,[6] and has performed internationally.[7]
