Andrew Collison Baker (born May 22, 1980) is an American former foreign service officer and author who has served as the United States deputy national security advisor alongside Robert Gabriel Jr. since May 2025. Baker served as the national security advisor to vice president JD Vance from January to May 2025.

Early life and education

Andrew Collison Baker was born on May 22, 1980, in Sonoma, California.[1] Baker graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Oxford.[2]

Career

Department of State (2010–2025)

Baker worked in the United States Foreign Service from 2010 to 2025.[2]

National security advisor to the vice president (2025–present)

Baker served as a senior foreign policy advisor for then-senator JD Vance,[3] where he dissuaded Vance from supporting military assistance to Ukraine.[4] Following the 2024 presidential election, Baker assisted Robert Wilkie in transition efforts at the Department of Defense;[4] Politico Magazine described his role as "central".[3] Baker served as the national security advisor to Vance until May 2025.[5]

Deputy National Security Advisor (2025–present)

In May 2025, Axios reported that Baker was named deputy national security advisor alongside Robert Gabriel Jr. as part of a restructuring effort by Marco Rubio, the acting national security advisor.[6]
